Hi, I'm Chris.

I started Sherwood Counseling Center because I have a passion for helping others, particularly children and adolescents who are struggling with behavioral problems and defiant tendencies, as I believe that these children are too often deemed “bad kids” by others. My goal at Sherwood Counseling Center is to work with my clients in an accepting and collaborative environment to make positive changes in their lives, or the lives of their children. I will provide a space of acceptance, trust, and confidentiality, which will allow us to collaborate in order to identify and work toward your goals.

My Story

I was born and raised in Winston-Salem, N.C., and will always call it my home. Following high school, I attended Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, N.C. for my undergraduate degree in psychology, and went on to attend Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, N.J. where I obtained my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Since graduating, I have worked in a wide range mental health settings, including psychiatric hospitals, day treatment centers for troubled youth, intensive in-home therapy providers, contract work through public schools, and community-based outpatient treatment.

My exposure to those settings over the years led me to develop an abundance of experience in assisting people from varying backgrounds and age groups who carry a wide range of presenting problems. I have a passion for helping children and teenagers who are struggling with behavioral problems, low self-esteem, poor social skills, trauma/PTSD, and feelings of loneliness or isolation.

I approach counseling from a person-centered perspective and will collaborate with you throughout the therapeutic process in order to determine how to best meet your goals for counseling, and life in general. During the course of therapy, I utilize various treatment modalities such as CBT, Gestalt, Person-Centered, and experiential approaches. I'm also excited to offer Brainspotting as an alternative to traditional talk therapy.
